I’ve been a professional test prep coach and math tutor since 2015, with deep expertise in teaching the SAT, ACT, and high school math. I primarily work with students one-on-one, and this allows me to provide support and guidance that is completely customized to each individual.
I believe deeply in the power of one-on-one education. When I work with a single student, learning becomes a conversation rather than a lecture. I’m always interested in getting to know my student as a unique person, recognizing what motivates them, what their strengths are, and where they struggle. My goal is to create a space of trust and honesty, where it’s okay to make mistakes or be frustrated as well as to celebrate achievements.
I describe myself as both a tutor and a coach because I play both roles. As a tutor, I teach content and unpack concepts. As a coach, I help my students to develop test-taking skills, identify specific opportunities for improvement, and create manageable practice plans with concrete goals. These two roles are, of course, complementary and overlapping. “Coaching” tends to be more prominent in SAT and ACT prep, while “tutoring” tends to be my primary role when I’m supporting a student in their math class; but in all cases, my overarching goal is to tailor my approach to match the needs of each student.
I now conduct the vast majority of my tutoring/coaching sessions online via Zoom. With the ability to share a digital whiteboard and annotate documents live onscreen, the online format is remarkably effective for one-on-one work. For those students that live in the Oakland vicinity and are interested in in-person meetings, I also offer in-home sessions at an additional fee.

I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri; Wrightwood, California; and Charlottesville, Virginia. I attended Stanford University, graduating in 2004 with a BS in Product Design and coursework in advanced mathematics.
I began tutoring in 2015 with Compass Education Group, an elite test prep company. In 2017 I launched my independent practice, and I’ve enjoyed helping my students train for standardized tests and excel in their math classes ever since.
In addition to math and teaching, some of my passions are music, visual design, running, and ping pong. I live in Oakland, California, with my beloved partner Kate.
